Harvest Light & Living Soil: Our Visit to Sol Spirit Farm During the 2025 Cannabis Harvest Season

Harvest Light & Living Soil:

Our Visit to Sol Spirit Farm During the 2025 Cannabis Harvest Season

Cannabis harvest season in the Emerald Triangle has a feeling all its own. There’s a hum in the air—part anticipation, part exhaustion, part reverence—that you can’t quite describe unless you’ve lived it.

In 2025, our cannabis harvest season officially began the moment we turned off the highway and headed toward Willow Creek, winding our way deeper into Trinity County to visit Sol Spirit Farm.

This visit wasn’t just another farm stop for us. It was the kind of experience that reminds you why Emerald Triangle cannabis is so special, why sun-grown flower carries a different energy, and why regenerative farming isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a way of life.

From the moment we arrived, Sol Spirit Farm left a lasting impression on us, not just as cannabis photographers and videographers, but as humans who deeply appreciate land stewardship, intention, and people who live in harmony with their environment.

In this article we will discuss:

Who Sol Spirit Farm Is (and Why They’re Special)

Sol Spirit Farm is tucked into the rugged, breathtaking landscape of Trinity County—an often quieter, less commercialized corner of the Emerald Triangle that rewards those willing to take the long road in. While Humboldt and Mendocino often dominate cannabis conversations, Trinity has always had its own soul, its own rhythm, and its own deeply rooted farming culture. Sol Spirit embodies that spirit fully.

At its core, Sol Spirit Farm is about regenerative, sun-grown cannabis, cultivated with reverence for soil health, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability. Their farming philosophy is holistic—nothing exists in isolation. Cannabis, vegetables, fruit trees, microbes, insects, animals, and humans all play a role in a balanced ecosystem.

Reading through their website before our visit, what stood out most was how intentionally everything is done. This isn’t about maximizing yield at the expense of the land. It’s about nurturing living soil, building resilience, and producing cannabis that reflects the place it’s grown. Their flower isn’t rushed, forced, or manipulated—it’s guided.

Sol Spirit’s cannabis is special because it’s grown the way cannabis wants to grow: outdoors, under the sun, in healthy soil, with patience and care. The result is flower that feels alive—aromatic, expressive, and deeply connected to its terroir.

And beyond cannabis, Sol Spirit Farm extends that same care into every part of their property. From homegrown fruits and vegetables to thoughtfully designed glamping accommodations, the farm is a reflection of a life built around intention and respect for nature.

The Road to Willow Creek

The drive into Willow Creek sets the tone immediately. Towering trees, winding river views, and the kind of quiet that only exists far from city centers make you slow down without even realizing it. Cell service fades. The noise disappears. Your senses recalibrate.

By the time we pulled onto the farm road, we already felt that familiar Emerald Triangle calm—the one that tells you you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Guard Dogs, First Impressions, and Finding Walter

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a couple of the nicest guard dogs you could ever hope to meet. Instead of suspicion or barking, they welcomed us with curiosity and confidence, almost like they were escorting us in. They led the way toward the patch, guiding us as if to say, You’re good—come on in.

And there was Walter.

We found him in the heart of it all, surrounded by cannabis plants glowing in the late-season light. From the first handshake, it was clear we were in good company.

Walter, along with Judy and a few close friends who were helping on the farm, welcomed us with warmth, openness, and genuine kindness. Conversations flowed effortlessly—about farming, life, cannabis, the land, and everything in between. There was laughter, curiosity, and an immediate sense of trust.

It was the perfect way to kick off our 2025 harvest season.

A Walk Through Regenerative Farming

Walter walked us around the farm, teaching us about their regenerative farming practices and sun-grown methods. And when we say teaching, we mean that in the most literal sense.

Walter is one of those farmers who is so deeply knowledgeable that listening to him feels like hearing another language—one rooted in soil science, plant physiology, observation, and decades of lived experience. He spoke about microbial life, soil structure, companion

planting, and the delicate balance required to let nature lead while still guiding the process.

Even when we didn’t fully grasp every technical detail, the results spoke for themselves.

Everything on that farm—everything—looked like the healthiest, most vibrant version of itself. The cannabis plants were lush and expressive. The vegetables were thriving. The fruit trees were abundant. There was a visible vitality in the land that’s impossible to fake.

It’s the kind of place where you can feel that the soil is alive.

Photographing Peace: Our Creative Flow at Sol Spirit Farm

Once we settled in, we naturally slipped into our creative rhythm.

We split up, each following the light and our instincts.

Erin: Farm Photography & On-the-Plant Macros

I wandered the farm with my camera, taking in the peaceful surroundings and documenting everything from wide farm landscapes to intimate details. There’s something incredibly grounding about photographing a farm like Sol Spirit—no rush, no artificiality, just real moments unfolding naturally.

Later in the day, I moved into on-the-plant cannabis macro photography. And let me tell you—if you know, you know. On-the-plant macros are hard. The slightest breeze can throw everything off. Your depth of field is razor-thin. Your body becomes part tripod, part breath-control system.

But we got lucky.

As the sun dipped lower, the air went still. No wind. No movement. Just plants glowing softly in golden light. Those conditions are rare, and when they happen, you take full advantage. I was able to capture some of my favorite on-the-plant macro images—trichomes sparkling, textures layered, the quiet magic of cannabis exactly where it belongs.

Jake: 360s, Rail Macros & Long Hours

Meanwhile, Jake set up in their back workhouse near the patch, focusing on 360-degree cannabis photography and rail macro work. The concrete floors, controlled setup, and proximity to the plants made it an ideal workspace for precision shooting.

Jake shot all day into the night—methodically, patiently, fully immersed. 360 photography requires endurance, consistency, and an obsessive attention to detail. Every frame matters. Every adjustment compounds.

As the light faded outside, the work continued inside.

Sunset, Studio Light, and a Long Day Well Spent

Sunset at Sol Spirit Farm was everything you hope for during harvest season. The light softened, wrapped around the plants, and gave us that fleeting window where everything feels cinematic without trying.

As night fell, we transitioned fully into studio-mode inside the workhouse. Concrete floors beneath us, gear everywhere, the quiet hum of a long day settling in.

And still—Walter was there.

Up at 4:00–4:30am every day for harvest season work, by 10:00pm Walter leaned in the doorway, half asleep, watching us shoot. He was exhausted—but still present, still generous, still cracking jokes with a hilariously dry sense of humor.

That moment stuck with us.

There’s something incredibly moving about someone who has already put in a full day of physical labor, yet still shows up with kindness and hospitality, simply because they care.

Why Sol Spirit Farm Left Such an Impression

We left Sol Spirit Farm thoroughly impressed—not just by the cannabis, but by the people, the land, and the philosophy behind it all.

This is what regenerative, sun-grown cannabis looks like when it’s done right.

It looks like:

  • Living soil that supports everything grown in it

  • Farmers who listen as much as they act

  • Cannabis that reflects its environment

  • A farm that feeds both body and spirit

  • Hospitality rooted in authenticity, not performance

Sol Spirit Farm isn’t trying to be the loudest voice in the room. They’re simply doing the work—quietly, intentionally, and beautifully.

A Place Worth Visiting (Yes, Really)

If you ever find yourself in Trinity County, we can’t encourage you enough to take the time to visit Sol Spirit Farm. Beyond their cannabis farming, they offer cannabis glamping options that allow you to fully experience the land, the quiet, and the magic of being immersed in a working regenerative farm.

It’s the kind of place that slows you down, reconnects you, and reminds you what’s possible when humans and nature work together.

Closing Thoughts

Our visit to Sol Spirit Farm marked the beginning of our 2025 cannabis harvest season in the best possible way. It inspired us creatively, grounded us personally, and reaffirmed why we’re so passionate about documenting Emerald Triangle cannabis culture.

We’re deeply grateful to Walter, Judy, their friends, and their incredible dogs for welcoming us so warmly. Sol Spirit Farm is a reminder that the soul of cannabis lives in places like this—quiet, intentional farms where the work is done with care, humor, and heart.

We’ll be carrying this visit with us all season long.
